In the South, we love our football (SEC: best conference in college football), good home cooking, and, though we don’t need the alcohol to ward off the interminably long winters you Yanks go through, we do love a good brew now and again.
I’ve had the joy of recently experiencing McMenamin’s fine selection of brews in Portland, OR, and enjoyed some Fat Tire from the New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, CO. However, if you should ever find yourself in the Southeast (where else would you be?), I strongly urge you to sample any of the brews from the Terrapin Beer Co.
Their signature brew is the Rye Pale Ale, brewed using…you guessed it…Rye, giving this beer an aggressive taste with a strong finish. In 2002, it won the prestigious American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, which I will sadly be unable to attend this year (October 11-13, 2007).
For beer connoisseurs everywhere, put Terrapin on your list. These guys know what they’re doing. And if the Rye isn’t strong enough for you, try their Rye Squared with twice the flavor and alcohol by volume.
