If you’re ever driving along Interstate 80 in western New Jersey and have an urge to grab a bite to eat, I highly recommend Lockwood Tavern in Byram Township. Located on Route 206 North just a few miles from I-80, Lockwood Tavern is a small, cozy bar located in the basement of the classy, Italian restaurant Barone’s.
The Tavern features four TV’s in a room no bigger than 800 square feet. The menu is mostly Italian. but their burgers are thick and juicy, their soup and salads hearty. I recommend the gazpacho, which was loaded with vegetables and featured a marinade that wasn’t overpowering. Their pasta was fresh and made-to-order. The sauces were absolutely perfect. The wait staff is extremely friendly and the service quick, efficient and professional. Though the bar is small, the Tavern has close to twenty tables.
With terrific food and a cozy, historic atmosphere (brick, stone and wood beams) Lockwood’s is a great place for great food.
